According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, striker Victor Osimhen continues to reject contract extension offers from Napoli, fueling speculation about his potential departure.
Osimhen’s current contract with Napoli has only 18 months left. Despite Napoli’s efforts to secure the services of the coveted number 9, the player remains a target for several top clubs.
However, Osimhen recently turned down Napoli’s contract extension proposal. This decision follows a similar stance he took not long ago.
Not too distant in the past, Osimhen expressed his desire to seek new challenges and seemed enthusiastic about experiencing the Premier League environment.
Currently, Chelsea is actively pursuing Osimhen, with reports suggesting they are even willing to break their transfer record to acquire the 1998-born player in the upcoming winter transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli is determined not to let Osimhen leave midway through the season. They will continue their efforts to persuade him to reconsider and sign a new contract.
If Osimhen remains steadfast in his decision, Napoli is likely to be forced to sell him in the summer 2024 transfer window. By then, the contract between the parties will only have one year remaining.
Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that Enzo Fernandez and Raheem Sterling can guide Chelsea to victory over Brighton
Enzo Fernandez and Raheem Sterling have dropped an early team news hint ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Brighton. The Blues will welcome the Seagulls to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as either side hopes to climb the Premier League table during the festive period.
The duo have posted pre-match graphic previews of the tie to their respective Instagram stories which, historically, suggests that they will be involved in some capacity. Fernandez and Sterling both started for Chelsea last weekend when they were trounced 4-1 by Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, so they’ll be determined to return to winning ways.
Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi’s side are unbeaten in seven games across all competitions. While Brighton may be confident, they had a crucial Europa League group stage clash away to AEK Athens on Thursday evening and they’re also set to be without Lewis Dunk due to suspension.
Ahead of what is expected to be a goal frenzy in west London, Pochettino was asked if the Blues have a psychological advantage over the Seagulls after defeating them in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season. The 51-year-old replied: “It’s not the opponent.
“It was Tottenham, it was Manchester City and it was Newcastle. Maybe most likely to take points against Newcastle because they were playing three days before a tough game against Paris Saint-Germain and then we beat Tottenham and an amazing game against Manchester City and then we lost against Newcastle.
“We are our own worst enemies and we need to be focused on us. If we are in a good place, then for sure we will compete in a good way. We are going to pay attention [to Brighton], but at the moment in this process, I think we need to pay more attention to ourselves rather than the opponent.”
Chelsea are currently 12 points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa in the race for Champions League qualification. When asked if top-four is still a realistic target this term, Pochettino replied: “It is mathematical. I think we still need to believe that it’s realistic. It’s going to be tough to achieve the places to allow us to play in European competition.
“The most important [thing] now is not to see the end of the season, but to see the process and to improve every day. That is the most difficult thing always in this type of process; to be focused on today and not on tomorrow.
“That is the aspect we are working on this week, to try and improve ourselves and what the team needs. That is the process. We cannot think at the end of the season because then we will start to stop what is going to bring us there. We will focus on the present and how we are going to be better every day.”
While Fernandez and Sterling have posted a pre-match previews of the Brighton fixture to their Instagram stories, it does not necessarily mean they will definitely start, but it usually means that they will be involved in some capacity
